Detailed Itinerary

Day 1

Arrival in Dibrugarh

  • Meet at Dibrugarh Airport and transfer to Mancotta or Chowkidinghee Heritage Chang Bungalow for a five-night stay.
  • In the afternoon, take an optional tea walk at Mancotta Tea Estate.
  • Visit Jagannath Temple in the evening.

Overnight: Dibrugarh

Day 2

Tea estates, tasting & village life

  • After breakfast, tour Ethelwold Tea Estate and learn about CTC tea production.
  • Taste different teas with a knowledgeable tea specialist or practising estate manager.
  • Visit Hiloidhari village and enjoy an evening cultural programme at Mancotta Heritage Chang Bungalow.

Day 3

Namphake, Barekuri & Maguri Beel

  • Drive to Namphake near Naharkatiya and visit the Tai Phake village and its Buddhist monastery. Meet local residents and learn about their traditions and handwoven textiles.
  • Continue to Barekuri village to look for hoolock gibbons.
  • Take a boat ride on Maguri Beel for birdwatching.
  • Return to Dibrugarh and visit Asama in Alimur, where village artisans create handwoven natural-fibre homeware and gifts.

Day 4

Majuli’s satras & island crafts

  • Travel to Majuli via Bogibeel Bridge, with views of the Brahmaputra; a sunset view at the bridge can be planned if timings allow.
  • Visit Kamalabari, Auniati and Shamaguri satras to explore Assam’s Vaishnavite cultural traditions.
  • Visit a Mishing village, meet traditional mask makers and see the Majuli mustard oil project.
  • Return to the bungalow in Dibrugarh in the evening.

Day 5

Sivasagar & the royal maidams

  • After breakfast, travel to Sivasagar via Moran. Meet acclaimed weaver Hemprabha Chutia, subject to her availability.
  • An optional visit to Teporcali Bam, known as Hornbill Village, can be arranged.
  • Explore Ahom monuments and temples, including Talatal Ghar, Rang Ghar, Shiva Dol and the Sivasagar tank.
  • Visit the royal maidams at Charaideo before returning to Dibrugarh.

Overnight: Dibrugarh

Day 6

Departure from Dibrugarh

  • Transfer to Dibrugarh Airport in time for your onward flight.

Important Notes

  • Tea factory visits depend on operations. Factories are closed on Mondays; tea plucking and processing demonstrations are unavailable from December to mid-March.
  • November to March is the suggested period in the itinerary for birding at Maguri Beel.
  • Meeting Hemprabha Chutia is subject to her availability; the tea walk and Hornbill Village visit are optional.
  • Wildlife sightings are not guaranteed. Excursion timings, river access and arrangements will be confirmed for your dates.
  • The itinerary also describes organic Mukul Tea Estate, including hand plucking and roasted green tea; ask about adding this experience.
